TT Club Host 'Loss Prevention in Container Shipping' Seminars in Asia

  • Date: 27/03/2013

On the 19th and 20th of March TT Club gave a seminar on Loss Prevention in Container Shipping. The seminar presented first in Shanghai and then in Taipei. TT Club’s Risk Management Director Peregrine Storrs-Fox spoke on three key issues:

1. The IMO initiative in relation to verification of container weight

How this will greatly benefit Ship Owners with more accurate weight information enabling better stowage and improved bunker fuel efficiency.  This presentation provided an overview of the IMO process, the impact container weighing will have on the supply chain and the likely time frame.

2. Cargo Incident Notification System (CINS) and the potential benefits Ship Operators could derive from participating

An overview of the vision, who is involved and the information already available.

3. Overview of changes in relation to the Container Safety Convention (CSC), including ‘Approved Continuous Examination Programmes’

The IMO has been working on a number of amendments to CSC over the last decade. Some key draft amendments are likely to be adopted in June 2013. This presentation highlighted issues of concern.

In Shanghai more than 40 guests attended, the majority of which were local Members including Cosco Container Liners and OOCL.  In Taipei over 50 people attended including local brokers from Aon, Marsh and Willis as well as TT Members Maersk and Evergreen.

Attendees very much welcomed the event and expressed an interest in attending more seminars organised by the Club.  With active question and answer sessions and great local press coverage both events were deemed a great success by TT Club and attendees.

TT Club look forward to hosting more seminars and would like to thank all who attended
