Press Release: TT CLUB SPONSORS 10TH FIATA YOUNG INTERNATIONAL FREIGHT FORWARDER OF YEAR AWARD 2009
18 November 2008
The award, which is bestowed by the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA), has been sponsored by TT Club since its inception in 1999; and last year TT Club announced a further commitment to sponsor the award for another five years. "FIATA are very pleased that TT Club have agreed to continue sponsoring this important Award. We believe it shows a strong commitment to promoting professionalism in the Freight Forwarding Industry", commented Markus Schöni, FIATA Manager, Advisory Body Vocational Training (ABVT). The award is given to the candidate who produces the best dissertation on a subject chosen by the panel of judges. The theme for 2009 is to be on the movement of relief supplies and equipment to disaster areas. Three separate scenarios are posed: a consignment of army materials shipping from the Philippines to a UN camp in Kandy, Sri Lanka; a shipment containing medical equipment and emergency power generators from Vienna in Austria to a UN designated depot in Male, Maldives; and a cargo of 200 tonnes of ready meals and ten Land Rovers from Trondheim, Norway to the UN HQ in Kigali, Rwanda. Candidates will be expected to draw on their experience and knowledge of freight forwarding techniques and to demonstrate flair and imagination in proposing ways of addressing these challenges. The award is open to any young freight forwarder whose company is a member of their National Forwarding Association. Each National Forwarding Association selects one candidate who will be no more than 30 years old in the year that the dissertation is to be written, and who has completed at least two years of full-time forwarding work. The winner will be drawn from a shortlist of four candidates proposed by national associations, and the prize will be presented at the FIATA World Congress being held in Geneva 21-25 September 2009. The deadline for nomination of candidates is 15th January 2009, and dissertations have to be submitted by 30th April 2009. The winner of the award will receive three weeks of practical and academic training, one week at the IATA training centre closest to the winner's home, one week of academic training in London, and one week of practical training based in one of the TT Club's regional centres (London, Hong Kong or New Jersey). Included in the prize is one year's free subscription to the International Transport Journal (ITZ), Switzerland, and International Freighting Weekly (UK). "TT Club is pleased to sponsor this award because it encourages excellence and professionalism in the freight forwarding business", said Andreas Mueller, TT Club's Business Development Director and one of the award judges. "We also believe that, since TT Club is the leading provider of insurance to the transport industry, our sponsorship helps to maintain the objectivity of the award. I am looking forward to meeting the winner in Geneva next year." Note to Editors: The TT Club is the international transport and logistics industry's leading provider of insurance and related risk management services.
