This prestigious Award - sponsored by the TT Club, FIATA, and IATA - has just completed its fifth successful year. It is aimed at encouraging training in forwarding and enlarging the professional experience of the candidates. The Award is open to young freight forwarders whose age will not be greater than 30 in the competition year and they must have been working full-time in forwarding for at least two years.

Mr Zahid Mehmood, the Manager of Star Logistics International, freight forwarders in Lahore, has sent us the following item on the dangers of accepting consignments from "unknown" shippers. "I read your TT Talk Edition regularly and I wish to share an incident with you, which I have seen at Lahore Airport. In our last edition, we published some advice that Harry Lee from the TT Club office in Hong Kong had recently given to a Club Member there on the risks involved in handling consignments of personal effects. That has prompted Mike Foster, of TTMS(UK) to comment that, in the UK at least, bills of lading for shipments of personal effects will be subject to the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations of 1999. Mike reminds us that under the Regulations, a contractual term is not binding on a consumer if it is unfair. A term is unfair if:

AM Best has revised the outlook of TT Club's rating (Through Transport Mutual Insurance Association Ltd) following a review of its performance since May this year when the Club reported its 2001 loss of US$40m including a strengthening of claims reserves of US$23m.

TT Club, the leading provider of insurance and risk management services to the international transport industry, is increasing the volumes of premium underwritten in 2002 and 2003 after signing a major quota share reinsurance agreement with Swiss Re and a second contract with another major reinsurer. The two contracts will enable the Club to underwrite additional premiums of up to US$ 36 million in 2002 and a further US$ 48 million in 2003, a cumulative increase of over 70% compared to 2001. The Club was advised by Marsh, who also placed the contracts on the Club's behalf.
