Today we are delighted to announce that Ulrich Kranich has been appointed the Chairman of TT Club, stepping up from his 9 years as a Director.
These 'Supplementary Industry FAQS' have been compiled in response to questions that have been raised by the industry in relation to the revised SOLAS regulation requiring 'verified gross mass of packed containers'.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has amended the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) to require, as a condition for loading a packed container onto a ship for export, that the container has a verified gross mass.
These FAQs relate to new mandatory rules, effective from 1 July 2016, concerning the requirement for shippers to verify the gross mass of a container carrying cargo.

New 'Guidelines for the Carriage of Calcium Hypochlorite in Containers' are intended to allow the carriage of calcium hypochlorite under controlled circumstances, to ensure that it is properly declared, packaged, packed and carried.
The explosion at Tianjin Port last August should be seen as a spectacular example of why those operating throughout the global supply chains should examine their work practices and risk policies more thoroughly.

Industry sentiment expressed at the ICHCA Seminar entitled 'SOLAS VGM One Month Out - Are You Ready?' held in Antwerp last week, was one of frustration. Less than 15% of the IMO Member States in which VGM regulations will be mandatory have issued guidelines on the manner in which they intend to enforce the regulation.
