These 'Supplementary Industry FAQS' have been compiled in response to questions that have been raised by the industry in relation to the revised SOLAS regulation requiring 'verified gross mass of packed containers'.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has amended the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) to require, as a condition for loading a packed container onto a ship for export, that the container has a verified gross mass.
These FAQs relate to new mandatory rules, effective from 1 July 2016, concerning the requirement for shippers to verify the gross mass of a container carrying cargo.
