TT Talk 151 - Reefer Containers
The TT Club is positioned astride the transport and logistics industry, providing liability and asset insurance for liner ship operators, ports and terminals, forwarding and logistics businesses, and equipment lessors. As such, it is inevitable that we are intricately involved in the issues facing the whole industry globally concerning the safety of reefer containers.
A loss prevention circular has been sent to Members and their brokers concerning the limited number of incidents involving the explosion of reefer containers, which has been widely reported in media around the world. Accompanying this was a questionnaire in which the Club sought to understand the extent of the problem and obtain some specific information; we are grateful for the responses received to date and would urge all Members to answer.
We have engaged container and forensic experts, and are working closely with a number of operators directly impacted by the incidents, as well as international organisations, in order to compile loss prevention information to guide the different interests through the supply chain. In order to ease dissemination of this and other information related to this situation, the Club has created a dedicated page on its website, which will be regularly updated. Those concerned may wish to add this page to your 'favourites'.
If you have comments or questions that are not canvassed on this dedicated webpage, please email riskmanagement@ttclub.com.
